Selborne Golf Estate – ‘I spy with my little eye’

A family road trip is not the same without childhood games of ‘car cricket’ or ‘I spy with my little eye.’ That is amidst the incessant whining: ‘Mom, he is pinching me,’ and ‘But she is on my side.’ At this point you suggest the ‘silence game’ or, against your better judgement, give in and hand out lollipops to the impatient littlies in the backseat. Dad sighs and wonders if it is all worth it? Well, if you are heading for Selborne Golf Estate, we promise you, it is worth it!

We have spied a whole host of family activities with our little eye on the doorstep of your Selborne Golf Estate accommodation. Whether you need to keep toddlers, tweens or teens entertained these holidays, plus enjoy some adult RnR, we can guarantee some wonderful family holiday memories are in store. The challenge is to get there in one piece.

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with… ‘P’

‘Pancakes’ – but not just any pancakes – we are talking famous giant pancakes at Mac Banana. Besides indulging in pancakes, sweet and savoury, for breakfast and lunch – there is zip lining, adventure golf, an obstacle course, quad biking, a farmyard and archery.

But wait, there’s even more. For those with a penchant for sweet things, you will be further spoilt with decadently delicious flavours at the Fudge Corner. For a change of pace, visit Mac Butterflies, the unique dome filled with walkways, waterfalls, butterflies and indigenous plants. It is easy to see why the slogan for Mac Banana is ‘an all in one experience.’ After everyone has gone bananas, the little ones are likely to fall asleep on the 50-minute drive back to your Selborne Golf estate accommodation.

‘Fun’ is just around the corner, 20 minutes from Selborne Golf Estate. The Jolly Roger Fun Park, situated on Hibberdene beach, is small enough for Mom and Dad to sit back, relax and enjoy the Indian Ocean views while the kids use up their daily energy quota. Miniature golf, a super tube, a jungle gym, and a restaurant/pub will meet everyone’s needs.

‘Supertubes?’ ‘Skating?’ At Amanzimtoti you can do both. On the main beach you will find Splash Water World – a hub of non-stop super tube and waterslide fun for all ages, as well as tubing down an adventure river. Braai facilities and putt-putt are all additional facilities, included in the entry fee.

How about flying a kite while at the beach? Jimmy D’s Sport shop at the Toti Mall is just the place to buy a kite and enjoy the wonder of this nostalgic childhood activity. If the kiddies are not too exhausted at the end of the day, stop off at Galleria Mall Ice Rink for some family ice-skating. This suggested fun-filled itinerary is only half an hour away from your Selborne Golf Estate accommodation.

‘Butterflies…flowers that fly and all but sing.’  Robert Frost’s words come alive at Butterfly Valley Farm, in Ramsgate, 45 minutes south of Selborne Golf Estate. The butterflies are not imported, but are bred right here on the farm. The flight dome offers visitors the magical opportunity to be immersed in a wonderful world of colourful fluttering butterflies. See if you can also spy the Australian Spiny Leaf Insect, Emperor Scorpion and Bearded Dragon with your little eye.
